Community Membership

Cost:

Membership to the Glabar Park Community Alliance only costs $5 per household per year.  You can donate more if you wish! It gives you voting rights at the AGM’s and special meetings and helps fund GPCA activities.

What the money goes towards:

How You Can Help Your Community

Proposed uses for GPCA funding include:

  • Purchasing a new snowblower for the rink in Kingsmere Park.
  • Creating an “emergency fund” for operating the rink.  City funding for local rinks is annually at risk of being cut at budget time.
  • Beautification of the area (ie: planting trees/shrubs/planters)
  • Updating playstructures and/or sports fields in the park.
  • Summer and winter fun days.
  • Cultural events: music/arts/Yuk Yuk’s in the park.
  • Mural project at Kingsmere Park done by neighbourhood kids/families.
  • All other ideas welcome, let us know by posting your thoughts on the website suggestion box or print and list them on our Community Survey.

  1. Become a member - Membership is just $5 per household (you may donate more if you wish!).  Please print and fill out the Membership survey and deliver it with your $5 to one of the board members.
  2. Participate in GPCA events - there is strength in numbers!  The more people that attend and participate in GPCA events and activities the better.  This includes everything from the AGM, children’s playgroup, the hockey rink, fundraisers, to fighting variances to zoning bylaws.
  3. Volunteer -It can be anything from donating an afternoon of your time for an event, handing out flyers, to joining or leading a committee on an issue that is important to you.  As little or as much time you can offer, every bit helps build a better community for all of us.  Let us know if there is a particular area of volunteering that interests you, or a specific area of expertise you can offer (computer skills, carpentry, etc.).
  4. Tell your Neighbours - Help us spread the word to get as many people involved in our community as we can!

The Community Association - Glabar Park Community Alliance

The original Community Association was formed back in the late 1950s when the community was being built. It was originally called the Glabar Park Community Association. This was changed to the Glabar Park Community Alliance when it was incorporated. It covers the homes that are bordered by the Queensway, Carling, Maitland and Woodroffe Avenues. Over 1100 homes are in this area. The Association is recognized by the City of Ottawa as the official community contact for all city issues such as traffic, zoning, water and sewers as well as Police.

GLABAR PARK COMMUNITY PLAYGROUP

Who are we?

The Glabar Park Community Playgroup is a group of parents and children who get together to socialize with the members of our community.

Where and when do we meet?

Starting the beginning of April 2010 we meet at Kingsmere Park at 2074 Benjamin Avenue from10-11:30am.  Parents with babies who aren’t mobile bring blankets and sit under the shade to gab with other parents while their wee ones nap or play with toys.  Parents with toddlers run around like crazy after their wild ones and hope to get a chance to talk with other adults during snack time.

What is the age of the children coming to the group?

There is no age specification.   During the school year the children range from newborn to 4 years old.  During the summer, all ages come out to play.

Is there a cost involved?

No, meetings at the park in the summer are free

Who can join?

ANYONE who wishes to get out and meet with other parents and their children is welcome.

Who do we contact?

If you would like to join our email list and receive notices of when we meet in the summer, and of special events in the winter, please contact Wendy Boland at wendowski22@rogers.com .
